What happened to all the heroes?

The Stranglers first asked the question back in 1977 and we have been asking the same question since. We have had our share of heroes though, right?

What is a hero anyway?

A person of distinguished courage or ability admired for their brave deeds and noble qualities. Like……

John F. Kennedy  said “Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country.” Assassinated in 1963

Malcolm X stated “If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.” Assassinated in 1965

Martin Luther King famously suggested “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Assassinated in1968

John Lennon sang “All we are saying is give peace a chance.”  Assassinated in1980

Are there still heroes in the world? Malcolm X, JFK, John Lennon and Martin Luther King all stood behind the incredible messages they sent to the world.  That and their actions made them heroes.

Who are the heroes of today?

Better yet, who are your personal heroes? Who inspires you to achieve your goals? Why you do what you do? Maybe it’s just you.

What does it take to be a hero?

    • Be kind to someone just because you can.
    • Help someone just because you want to.
    • Give someone your time just because you have it to give.
    • Stand for what you believe in.

 That makes you a hero.

All those iconic heroes did these things.

 So can you.

  1. Awesome post, Ralph! The more heroes this world has, the better it will be. There’s a hero lurking in each and every one of us. We don’t need to look far to find one. We just need to act.

  2. Thanks for you kind reply. Appreciated. It was a fun post to create. I thought of it while listening to the Stranglers (obvious, I guess) and think the message is true. Everyone can be a hero in their own world and collectively we make the world a better place.
